Guatemla Trip 2010

Fair Trade Awareness Social Justice Trip??

That's what we are calling this trip. But what does that even mean? Why are we not calling it a missions trip or a service trip or any of the other more common names for trips such as these. Basically it is semantics. I am willing to admit that. Social Justice trips bring greeter meaning to what is happening. Mission trips r service trips focus on the one week that people are gone. Social Justice trips basically say that what we see, hear and learn about must affect how we live our lives when we get home. It also means that we do not just build a road or put a roof on a house. Our goal is to work on long term justice in the region. We are going to focus on coffee workers and coffee sales. We will learn about the realities of fair trade and direct trade and how a few extra dollars in the USA greatly impacts the coffee farmers in Guatemala.
